Celebrity Collaborations

Enter the Air Jordan

It was in 1984 that NIKE would sign arguably their most successful deal with upcoming basketball player Michael Jordan. Jordan at the time was still fresh to his NBA career, and despite this, he refused deals with companies like Reebok and Converse. He instead signed with Nike for a fee of $500,000 a year. This deal promised Jordan his own custom shoe, and with that, the first Air Jordan was born. Since 85, over 150 million pairs of Air Jordans have been sold, and 38 different signature models have been put on shelves. This would quickly become one of Nike's most bought and worn product, and within the coming years, the company would not only keep their partnership with Michael Jordan, but collab with other celebrities as the Air Jordan. A recent example of this would the Jumpman Jacks, Air Jordan's collaboration with rapper Travis Scott. More basketball players joined in, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James being more examples. These athletes would also get their own signature shoe model, and the chance at collaborating with other famous celebrities.
